    Design details

Why choose cast iron instead of plastic or vinyl bumper weights?

    - Cast iron is a dense material that is more compact than vinyl, which means you can add more discs to the bar (up to 32 kg on one dumbbell bar)
    - Cast iron lasts a lifetime, unlike plastic or vinyl, which can wear out within a year.
    - Cast iron is less affected by temperature changes so you can use it in a range of conditions.

Our cast iron plates are made from at least 80% recycled cast iron

Since 2018, our teams have been gradually integrating recycled materials until we reached the perfect balance. Following several years of experiments, Decathlon is replacing its entire range of cast iron products with recycled cast iron made from at least 80% scrap metal and steel waste – a real feat for the world of metal! To ensure that the quality is the same as classic cast iron, tests are carried out in partner laboratories.

Why should you use cast iron weights?

    - Cast iron better withstands shocks, drops and crushing (5 times better) than vinyl.
    - Cast iron has a textured surface for excellent grip even when your hands are damp, unlike plastic, which can be slippery.

Choosing our cast iron weights means you can work out confidently and efficiently.

What bars are compatible with this 5 kg weight training disc?

To use this 5 kg cast iron weight, you'll need a 28 mm bar such as:
    - Straight bar, 1.2 metres
    - Curl bar, 1.2 metres
    - Triceps bar, 86 cm
    - Short bar, 35 cm
    - Threaded bar, 45 cm
    - Straight bar, 1.55 metres
    - Straight bar, 2 metres
A 50 mm bar will not be compatible with this weight plate.

Don't forget disc collars for training safely

Remember to invest in a pair of disc collars to lock the weights on your bar as you exercise. Our Smart Stop disc stoppers are sold in pairs and allow you to workout in complete safety.
Just be careful: their weight limit in a vertical position is 15 kg.

Our advice for storing your cast iron weight training discs!

    - To store your cast iron weights, you can get a wall-mounted weight plate holder or a storage rack to set up indoors (in a garage, for example).
    - Do not store your weights outdoors or in a damp place, since cast iron risks rusting if exposed to moisture.
    - Dust your discs with a microfibre cloth when they have been stored for a long time.

From extraction to production, metal has a high environmental footprint. To help reduce it, we use recycled metal in this product — sourced from recovered scrap, sorted, shredded, and melted down in electric furnaces, which are far less energy-intensive than traditional coal-fired blast furnaces. The result: the same performance as virgin metal, with a lower environmental impact: – 40% less energy used – 19% fewer CO2eq emissions – and fewer raw materials extracted
