    Recommendations for use with your ascender

    Unlike “static” ropes with no elongation, semi-static ropes have a low coefficient of elongation: not enough to absorb a fall, but enough to soften violent jolts on the anchor and the user in the event of a small slip.

    Why can’t it absorb a fall when climbing?

    Semi-static ropes have low elongation, insufficient to absorb the force of a fall. If used to arrest a fall in climbing, they would transmit a violent shock to both the climber and the anchor, endangering the safety and well-being of those involved.
    This limited elongation is precisely the benefit of a semi-static rope: it allows the user to climb or work at height without the rope bouncing.
