We are committed to consuming less water with this product
(black colour)
Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. To reduce our environmental impact, we use this self-pigmentation process for black colours that involves adding the colour pigments when the yarn itself is produced.
WHY CHOOSE RECYCLED POLYESTER?
(Colours other than black)
By recycling plastic bottles to produce our polyester, we have reduced the utilisation of oil-based resources while preserving the quality and performance of the material during your activities.
The overtrousers (colours other than black) contain 72% recycled polyester.
Waterproofing of the component of these overtrousers
The waterproofing of a fabric by a coating or a membrane is measured in Schmerbers or H20 mm (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric.
These over trousers are designed with a waterproof coating (JIS 1092 standard): this component resists 5,000 mm H20 (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5 metre column of water).
Waterproofing of these overtrousers
The waterproof properties of the over trousers aren’t just that of its components: the assembly technique of the different parts is also an evaluation criterion.
Sewn watertight, the overall waterproof properties of your over trousers are measured with a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
These Raincut waterproof over trousers protect you from a small shower equivalent to 6 cm of rain in 1 hour.
Water repellent without PFC
The fabric of these overtrousers has water-repellent properties: it lets water slide over its surface without seeping in. In this way, the fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays light and breathable.
The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the fabric's exterior: it doesn't use fluoride.
Durability of the performance of the overtrousers in the rain
To maintain a durable water-repellent fabric, we recommend reactivating it regularly.
Do this every three washes (it is important to rinse abundantly) or after a dozen uses in the rain.
You can easily reactivate the water repellent property by warming the fabric:
- in a tumble dryer for 15 minutes (synthetic program)
- with a hair dryer at a distance of 20 cm by going back and forth twice
- or two passes with an iron on the delicate setting without the steam function.
Fabric breathability
The fabric of these overtrousers is breathable: RET = 12.
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET).
This is its capacity to let water vapour generated by the body during physical activity escape and therefore avoid water accumulating on the skin.
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.
RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric
RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability
Choosing your waterproof overtrousers according to your level of physical effort
This product is designed for hikes lasting several hours while walking at a pace of no more than 5km/h.
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effort If the fabric's breathability isn't suited to the type of activity/exercise your perspiration will condense inside jacket. You will feel damp inside this is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensing You need to choose over-trousers in line with your activity type.
