Technical Information

1
Safety
Contrary to what many people may think, no lock is fully tamper proof. A bike lock is there to make stealing the bike more complicated, to delay the thief and therefore act as a deterrent. A good lock has an anti-picking lock mechanism and is made out of materials requiring the use of specific tools, making theft more difficult.
2
Security rating
The security rating helps you choose the lock that is most suited to your use. To accomplish this, B'Twin defined a test protocol jointly with an independent laboratory, CNPP, based on real-life theft techniques. This unique protocol allows each lock to be given a comparable rating indicating how resistant it is to theft. This rating ranges from 0 (least secure) to 10 (most secure).
3
Main section
Links made of hardened steel (65 HRC), one of the highest strength levels available for bike locks. Guaranteed resistance to hacksaws and hammers. Covered in fabric to keep it from scratching the bike frame.
4
Lock
Reinforced lock mechanism. Hundreds of different keys to limit the risk of theft. Comes with 2 numbered keys.

Terrible product
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
After only two weeks of using this product the lock started getting stuck, making it more difficult to open. At some point I would have to spend 10 minutes on wrestling with the key and the lock trying to open it.
Response of the brand
It is possible that some grit or dirt may have entered the locking mechanism. If you feel the item is faulty, please feel free to return the item to us for a refund or an exchange.

doesn't work every time.
Used for More than 1 year
Since i bought it it was not good. The lock stuck must oftime and i have to keep wiggle it to make it work. last week the lock doesn't want to open. luckily i couldn't lock my bike so the bike stayed in the bike shelter but now i am unable to unlock and bring it for refund. lost the lock and no refund:)
Response of the brand
Thank you for posting a review of your lock. I'm sorry to read that the lock isn't working as well as it should after 12 months of use. It is possible that some grit may have entered the mechanism causing is to seize. Take a photo of your lock and take it to your nearest shop (drop them a line first) where they can discuss the best option for you.

Nice lock, can I get additonal keys?
Used for 3 to 6 months
Hi,

I have used the lock for a few months now, works great.

I've lost one of the keys so I now have only 1 left. Is it possible to get a replacement set of keys to match the lock? I'm worried about losing this one and not being able to get the lock off. Bike locks typically come with 3 keys,

It says in the description that the keys are numbered but htis doesn't appear to be the case, can you confirm this please?

Thanks,
Adam.
Bike locked forever
Used for 1 week or less
Impossible to unlock my bike... must be an indoor lock as it rusted really quickly. Bike being chained for weeks now. Tryied all sorts of oil impossible to open it.... if anyone at decathlon reads this and has a solutioon i d appreciate.
Response of the brand
Dear sir,
I can confirm that this is a lock designed for outdoor use. I have used the very same one personally for nearly three years outside. Every few months I apply some spray grease in the lock (not WD40 etc...) but one of the most common causes of locks jamming up is grit and grime. Keeping the lock mechanism off the ground for as long as possible is a good tip.
Realistically in your case, the only way will be to saw or cut through the chain with a very large bolt cuter or axle grinding machine as this lock is very strong.

Not enough to stop theft
Used for More than 1 year
I had great faith in this lock, but have just had my bike stolen with this securing it. It appears a bolt cutter can cut through the metal links.
Response of the brand
I'm very sorry to read that a thief stole your bike. It is terrible that this has happened and from my unfortunate personal experience, I empathise completely. This strong chain lock deters many would be thieves, particularly ones of the opportunistic variety. However it is also true to say that some professional thieves carry large bolt cutters and other equipment and given enough time can break through most bike locks. The hardened steel on the links is graded at 65 HRC meaning it is very strong indeed which would have slowed down the thieves considerably.

chain very good, padlock not great
Nice heavy chain, but the padlock is very tempremental. Two or three times now its jammed so that you cant unlock it, the last time it took three of us over an hour to unlock the thing. Will take it back to swap for something else.
Response of the brand
Hello,
I'm sorry to read that the padlock is jamming. Have you tried squirting some grease/oil into the two holes for the U shaped shackle? Try to avoid WD40 which can be OK for un-jamming or to displace water but is also degreaser (which is is not always desirable).
If you leave your lock out in the rain then this is good practice. If however, you keep your lock indoors or under a shelter then there may well be an issue, in which case, please return it to us for an exchange.

Very strong looking lock, but NOT unbreakable
Used for More than 1 year
Had this lock for about 18 months, I used it to secure three bikes together in the shed.

Thought it would be strong enough to withstand attack, unfortunately not. Had two bikes stolen from shed, the third was left on the lawn, obviously not good enough for them, although it did cost £300!

The forensic officer said that bolt cutters had been used on the chain, not the lock. He was surprised and would be upgrading his own motorbike chain at it was smaller than this one.

I'll be looking for something more secure, when bikes are replaced.
Spare Keys
Used for More than 1 year
Where can I get spare keys from, I have the key number?
Could you please put this information on your web site
Strong and Heavy
Do not know where to get spare keys
Response of the brand
Unfortunately, we don't offer a key replacement service on our bike locks.  If you lose you keys, you will need to purchase a new lock.
If you contact me directly, I can help find a solution for you.

A very good lock for £20
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
A good lock if you are concerned about locking your bike up in public.
Long chain, feels secure
Quite heavy.
Ok Lock, but no Sold Secure Rating
Used for 2 to 8 weeks
Seems a decent enough lock, but it doesn't have a Sold Secure Rating, so you can't really use it as your main bike lock, only as a backup/secondary lock.
Cheap
No Sold Secure Rating
Response of the brand
Hello,
This is indeed a very solid lock but it has not been sent off for testing with "sold secure".  It depends which insurance  company you use as not all require a sold secure rated lock (bronze, sliver, gold).
We do stock various rated locks from ABUS which may fulfill your requirements:

Silver: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/granit-plus-bike-d-lock-id_8316303.html or http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ionus-8900-chain-bike-lock-id_8203081.html
